The 5th Annual ScreenAge Wasteland Awards Nominees: ‘Barbie’ & ‘Oppenheimer’ Tie for Most Nominations

Reading Time: 4 minutes

The nominees for the 5th Annual ScreenAge Wasteland Awards have been announced!

Last month, the SAW team submitted nominees for the best films of 2023. A lot of films and performances were submitted, but at the end of the day, there can only be five nominees per category (and 10 for Best Picture, Best Character, and Best Moment).

Any 2023 movie released on streaming, television, or in theaters was eligible as long as the film was widely released by mid-January 2024 (to take into consideration late-December limited releases).

That means that films like The Zone of Interest, which has yet to see a proper wide release in North America, will be considered 2024 movies and be eligible for next year’s SAWards.

With all that out of the way, here are your nominees…

Barbie and Oppenheimer were the most nominated films this year with 10 nominations apiece. Poor Things took third place with 8 nominations, followed by The Holdovers with 7 nominations. The Iron Claw and Past Lives rounded out the top five (or six in this case) with 6 nominations each.

Here’s how the nominations broke down for the rest of the films:

A shout-out should also be given to Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Dominic Sessa, and Celine Song for each snagging two nominations.

Voting is open to everyone until the end of February 29, 2024.
