Andy Muschietti to Helm ‘The Howling’ for Netflix; Will Adapt Flashpoint for ‘The Flash’

Andy Muschietti is one busy man.

Muschietti is currently one of the hottest directors working in Hollywood at the moment. He has a number of projects lined up, most notably The Flash at Warner Bros. (the studio that released his IT duology).

However, according to That Hashtag Show, Muschietti just signed up for another project. He is set to direct a new adaption of the 1977 novel The Howling for Netflix.

The novel by Gary Bradner was loosely adapted previously to film in the 1981 horror movie of the same name. It can be expected that Muschietti will want to differentiate his film from the 1981 version, and therefore will more faithfully adapt the source material.

As for The Flash, Muschietti revealed a bit about the direction he will take. He hinted that the film will be a “different version of Flashpoint than you’re expecting.”

The insanely popular Flashpoint comic arc has previously been adapted twice. Once as an animated film, and the other as an episode of The CW’s The Flash (which was recently renewed for a seventh season).

I think using The Flash to rewrite/fix the DC Extended Universe timeline is a good idea. If Batfleck is done, then we can recast him by way of the new timeline. Plus, Flashpoint features major recurring roles for Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazam, characters that have led the most critically acclaimed films of the DCEU.

I’ll be keeping an eye on both of these projects. The Flash hits theaters July 1, 2022. The Howling is currently without a release date.

Are you excited for a new adaption of The Howling? Do you want The Flash to rewrite the DCEU timeline?
