‘Carnival Row’ Teaser – Bloom and Delevingne Face Off 19th Century London

Amazon Prime has dropped the trailer for their upcoming Victorian supernatural series Carnival Row and…well, it’s light on details, but nonetheless intriguing. Enjoy!

Orlando Bloom certainly looks like he’s going for Peaky Blinders badass and his partner also doesn’t seem like the type to sprinkle fairy dust over the brows of sleeping children; but that’s some excellent casting. Cara Delevingne is very fey-like, even without the wings.

Amazon Studios have partnered with Legendary Television and Stillking Films for the production which will have episodes directed by Jon Amiel, Anna Foerster, Andy Goddard and Paul McGuigan. Writing credit is varied but it should be noted that godfather-of-fantasy Guillermo del Toro has penned the script for an episode, which might shed more light on the tone of the series.

Plot Synopsis:

Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne star in Carnival Row, a Victorian fantasy world filled with mythological immigrant creatures whose rich homelands were invaded by the empires of man. This growing immigrant population struggles to coexist with humans in the grimiest section of the city — forbidden to live, love, or fly with freedom. But even in darkness, hope lives, as a human detective, Rycroft Philostrate, and a refugee faerie named Vignette Stonemoss rekindle a dangerous affair despite an increasingly intolerant society. Vignette harbors a secret that endangers Philo’s standing during his most important case yet: a string of gruesome murders threatening the uneasy peace of the Row. As Philo investigates, he reveals a monster no one could imagine.

Carnival Row will see a release on the 30th of August 2019.

What do you think, Wasteoids? That certainly was a brief teaser, but was it enough to get you peculating over the possibilities? True love between the mundane and the supernatural is not a novel idea, but it’s a perennially popular one; add a dash of Bright-style anti-fairy prejudice and…well, not sure what we have here yet.
