Netflix is wasting no time putting together the cast for its Chronicles of Narnia reboot.
According to Deadline, Daniel Craig has an offer to join Greta Gerwig’s Narnia reboot. It’s reportedly super early in the dealmaking process, and sources stress that it is unknown if Craig will actually sign on, but the offer is his and only his at the moment. What sort of role Netflix and Gerwig want Craig for is unknown, although he’d make a damn good Aslan. (UPDATE: What’s on Netflix is claiming that Craig is being eyed for Uncle Andrew Ketterley, one of the antagonists of The Magician’s Nephew.)
If Craig does sign on, it would mark a reunion of sorts of the actor and Netflix. Just before wrapping up his five-film run as James Bond, Craig found success playing an original character, the super-sleuth Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out (2019). The 2022 sequel, Glass Onion, was released on Netflix, with a third movie, Wake Up Dead Man, set to drop onto the streamer later this year.
Charlie XCX Is Also in Talks for Narnia Reboot
Craig’s potential casting comes roughly a week after Charlie XCX was reported to be in talks for the role of Jadis, the White Witch. There has been no word yet on which Narnia novel Gerwig intends to bring to the big screen, although Jadis/The White Witch is only prominently featured in two books: The Magician’s Nephew and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Gerwig has been attached to write and direct at least two Narnia films since late 2022, with her involvement in Netflix’s reboot confirmed in July 2023, following the critical and commercial success of her last directorial effort, Warner Bros.’ Barbie.
Unlike most Netflix movies, Gerwig has successfully managed to secure a two-week IMAX global run in 90 countries across 1,000 auditoriums for her Narnia reboot in advance of the movie’s debut on the streaming service. The untitled Narnia movie will be released in IMAX on Nov. 26, 2026, before streaming on Netflix beginning Dec. 25, 2026.
Who do you think Daniel Craig could play in Gerwig’s Narnia reboot? Do you hope he signs on for the movie?
