Johnny Depp is staging a Hollywood comeback.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Depp is set to star in Day Drinker, an upcoming thriller for Lionsgate that has Marc Webb attached to direct. Depp will be joined by Penélope Cruz, reteaming the actors for what will be their fourth movie together. The duo previously starred in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Murder on the Orient Express.
In Day Drinker, “a cruise ship bartender meets a mysterious day drinker—only for both of them to find themselves entangled in a criminal underbelly, and connected in unexpected ways,” reads the synopsis. Zach Dean wrote the original spec screenplay.
“Day Drinker combines a highly commercial concept with wildly outrageous twists and turns all set in an incredible world, and there is no better filmmaker than Marc or two more perfectly cast actors than Johnny and Penélope to bring that world to life,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson in a statement.
No production start date has been announced at this time. We’ll keep you posted.
