The DC Universe and DC Elseworlds brands both got a brand new project yesterday.
According to Variety, DC Studios and HBO Max are developing a fictional true crime series set in the DCU that will be hosted by Skyler Gisondo‘s Jimmy Olsen. Titled DC Crime, the show would be presented as a true crime docuseries, with the first season centered on Gorilla Grodd, a notable villain from The Flash.
Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault are attached as writers, executive producers, and showrunners on DC Crime. Both have experience in the world of mockumentary series, as they were the creators of the critically-acclaimed Netflix show American Vandal, which spoofed the true crime genre.
James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios will executive produce, with DC Studios’ Galen Vaisman overseeing production. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.
Variety also revealed that a new adaptation of V for Vendetta is in the works for HBO, with Pete Jackson to write the series adaptation. V for Vendetta is expected to be part of the DC Elseworlds brand, which is reserved for DC projects not part of the main shared universe.
Written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd, V for Vendetta is set in Britain in a dystopian, not-too-distant future in which the country is controlled by the fascistic Norsefire party. An anarchist named V, known for his distinctive Guy Fawkes mask, seeks to topple the government with the help of Evey Hammond, a young woman V rescued from the country’s secret police.
Gunn and Safran will executive produce, as will Ben Stephenson via Poison Pen and Leanne Klein of Wall to Wall Media, which is part of Warner Bros. Television Studios UK. Warner Bros. Television will produce.
