Disney Delays ‘Black Widow’, ‘West Side Story’ & More to 2021; Sony Delays ‘Connected’

Disney has pushed back its entire fall theatrical slate to 2021. All that remains now in 2020 is a few 20th Century Studios films. As well, Disney has shuffled a few MCU films, and at a different studio, Sony has delayed Connected to an undetermined date in 2020.

Instead of running them down one by one, here’s just a handy list in bullet form:

  • The Empty Man (October 23, 2020)
  • Death on the Nile (December 18, 2020)
  • The King’s Man (February 12, 2021)
  • Black Widow (May 7, 2021)
  • Shang-Chi (July 9, 2021)
  • Deep Water (August 13, 2021)
  • Eternals (November 5, 2021)
  • West Side Story (December 10, 2021)

As you can, Disney has kept two 20th Century films in 2020 (and even moved The Empty Man up a couple months). Disney still has Pixar’s Soul scheduled for November, which some industry insiders expect may become the next Disney+ Premiere Access film after Mulan.

Meanwhile, Sony has delayed Connected from October 23, 2020 to an undisclosed date later this year.

We will keep you updated on if more changes are made to the 2020 theatrical release calendar.

Do you think 2021 will be the best year for cinema? Or should we expect the delays to continue into next year?
