‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ Will Start Production in Brazil in Spring 2020

Last month, Dan Fogler mentioned that Fantastic Beasts 3 would begin production early next year. Now it has been confirmed.

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has officially greenlit Fantastic Beasts 3 and set a production start date of spring 2020. The film’s production was slated to start in July 2019, then this fall, but was pushed back to make sure they got the script just right (given that Crimes of Grindelwald is the least-liked Wizarding World film among fans).

One thing that has set Fantastic Beasts apart from Harry Potter is that Fantastic Beasts takes its characters across the world. Producers plan on each film taking place in a different city. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald jumped between Paris and London, Fantastic Beasts 3 will be making a stop in Rio de Janeiro.

In addition to Fogler, Eddie Redmayne is set to return as Newt Scamander, as well as Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore, Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald, Ezra Miller as Aurelius “Credence” Dumbledore, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, and Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein.

Franchise mainstay David Yates will return to direct a screenplay from J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves.

I had a number of issues with Crimes of Grindelwald, most notably Credence ending up being an unknown Dumbledore brother (really, Rowling?!). However, Jude Law was perfectly cast as a younger Dumbledore.

If the Fantastic Beasts series will continue to build towards the inevitable showdown between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, then I’m thankful that they have nailed the casting. Although, I wouldn’t mind if they revamped Depp’s look for Grindelwald. It is just far too ridiculous.

Fantastic Beasts 3 hits theaters November 12, 2021.

What are your hopes for Fantastic Beasts 3? Do you think there needs to be a greater focus on Dumbledore and Grindelwald, and less on Newt and company; or vice versa?
