Actor Glen Powell (Twisters) and director Barry Jenkins (Mufasa: The Lion King) are making a movie together.

According to DeadlineUniversal has landed the hot package The Natural Order, with Jenkins on board to direct and Powell attached to star. The movie is based on the upcoming novel of the same name by Matt Aldrich.

Details are under wraps, but The Natural Order is being billed as “an elevated sci-fi thriller revolving around the pursuit of eternal life.” Jenkins and Aldrich will be adapting from Aldrich’s unpublished manuscript.

The project marks the first film Powell and Dan Cohen will produce for their new company Barnstorm under its first-look deal at Universal, which started last month. Additional producers include Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak for the Pastel banner they share with Jenkins.

Jenkins, Powell, and Aldrich had reportedly been developing The Natural Order for some time, but only recently took it to market where Universal scooped it up. Powell and Jenkins are coming off a pretty good 2024, with the former starring in the crowd-pleasing hits Hit Man and Twisters and the latter directing the CG-animated Lion King prequel Mufasa, which grossed over $700 million worldwide.

We’ll keep you posted as The Natural Order comes together.
