Join the Celebration in the New ‘Midsommar’ Trailer

Midsommar is the sophomore project by director Ari Aster who took the horror world by storm last year with his haunting debut, HereditaryA24 has dropped a new trailer that invites you into a cult that celebrates Midsommar every 90 years in what has been described as a “post-apocalyptic breakup movie” and a “Scandinavian folk horror film.”

That got my blood a boiling. Of course there are vibes of Robin Hardy’s The Wicker Man, but it also has the feel of Eli Roth’s Hostel (which I don’t like but it was a solid idea). Florence Pugh’s performance already seems to stand out to me even in just the trailer. Will Aster be able to pull out a great performance like he did with Toni Collete in Hereditary?

Last thing that stands out is this seems to be the rare horror movie to be primarily set in daylight which already makes it feels much different than your normal scary flick.

Plot Synopsis:

A couple travels to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled midsummer festival, but what begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.

Jack Reynor stars as Pugh’s boyfriend with Will Poulter, Vilhem Blomgren, William Jackson Harper, Ellora Torchia and Archie Madekwe also appearing.

The festivities begin on July 3.
