The live-action The Legend of Zelda movie has been added to Sony‘s release calendar.

According to VarietyThe Legend of Zelda will hit theaters on March 26, 2027. This means that fans will have to wait just under two years to see the live-action adaptation of the best-selling Nintendo video game series on the big screen.

A live-action Zelda movie was officially announced in November 2023. Wes Ball (The Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) remains attached to direct the adaptation. Ball will also produce, along with Joe Hartwick Jr., under their Oddball Entertainment banner, with Zelda series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad also producing.

“This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films,” Miyamoto stated at the time. “I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”

Sony and Nintendo will co-finance the movie. Casting and story details remain in the works. The Legend of Zelda series primarily centers around Link and Princess Zelda as they fight to save the magical land of Hyrule from the evil warlord/demon king Ganon. The most recent installment in the video game franchise was 2024’s The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which was released on the Nintendo Switch to favorable reviews.
