The Road to the Championship
As a #1 seed, The Matrix was an early odds-on favorite to win the entire tournament, and it didn’t disappoint as it demolished the competition. #16 American Beauty stood no chance as The Matrix got almost 100% of the votes in round one. It would go on to simply run through the rest of the competitors with ease, taking down #9 The Blair Witch Project, #12 Reservoir Dogs, and #2 Toy Story by a wide margin. The first real challenge would be in the Final Four against #1 Goodfellas, but The Matrix would go on to defeat them gangsters by several votes. In the championship, it would face off against the #3 seed Terminator 2, who had some upsets along the way. And although T2 put up one hell of a fight, it went down in defeat by only 3 votes, crowning The Matrix as the best movie of the 1990s!
