One Choice: Christmas Rom-Coms

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Inspired by the popular online game that asks people to choose one movie from a group of four, One Choice… is pretty much the same game. Readers will be given four similar movies and asked to choose one. Now here’s the catch, the other three movies will be gone forever, wiped from your brain as if they never existed. Are you ready to theoretically live in a world where you have The Empire Strikes Back but not Star Wars or Return of the Jedi? What about the 1989 Batman movie but not Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight? The choice is yours, screenager, so choose wisely.

Merry Christmas! Throughout December we’re going to have some festive holiday-themed One Choices. First up, Christmas rom-coms!

Here are the 4 Movies:

Love Actually (2003)

Cast: Hugh Grant, Martine McCutcheon, and Liam Neeson

Synopsis: Follows the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London, England.

Just Friends (2005)

Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Amy Smart, and Anna Faris

Synopsis: While visiting his hometown during Christmas, a man comes face-to-face with his old high-school crush and best friend–a woman whose rejection of him turned him into a ferocious womanizer.

The Holiday (2006)

Cast: Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, and Jude Law

Synopsis: Amanda lives in LA and is a movie trailer editor. Iris lives in Surrey and is a journalist. The two decide to swap houses for two weeks at Christmas – both trying to forget their troubled love lives, until love finds them anyways.

Happiest Season (2020)

Cast: Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis, and Mary Steenburgen

Synopsis: A holiday romantic comedy that captures the range of emotions tied to wanting your family’s acceptance, being true to yourself, and trying not to ruin Christmas.
