Warner Bros. has added two highly anticipated movies to its release calendar.

Per Deadline, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum has been officially delayed to 2027, with Warner Bros. announcing a December 17, 2027 theatrical release for the midquel.

The upcoming fantasy movie serves as both a spinoff and a midquel to Peter Jackson’s acclaimed Lord of the Rings trilogy, with The Hunt for Gollum set during the events of 2001’s The Fellowship of the Ring, taking place after Bilbo Baggins’ 111th birthday party but before the Mines of Moria.

At the time of writing, the only actor officially confirmed to be returning for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is Andy Serkis, who, in addition to reprising his role from the LOTR and Hobbit trilogies as Gollum, will be directing the midquel. However, with Gandalf and Aragorn set to have major roles in the movie, the hope is for Ian McKellen and Viggo Mortensen to also return.

Warner Bros. has also unveiled a September 18, 2026 theatrical release date for Practical Magic 2. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman will reprise their roles from the 1998 original movie. The sequel is expected to be based on Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel The Book of Magic, the fourth installment in her Practical Magic series.
