“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” — that’s a saying that the folks behind Space Jam: A New Legacy should have adhered to before making this unnecessary sequel to a beloved 1990s childhood classic.
Why am I being so negative? Well, Warner Bros. finally released the first trailer for the upcoming Space Jam reboot-sequel and it looks extremely bad. Take a look, if you dare.
Well, I don’t think any of us expected LeBron James to turn in an Oscar worthy performance, but I mean, at least Michael Jordan felt believable. His acting was passable. LeBron, on the other hand, just feels wooden and like he belongs in some high school drama production.
Other problems brought up by the trailer include the confusing way LeBron James’ son gets trapped in the “Warner 3000 entertainment Server-verse”. Does LeBron have a whole floor dedicated to servers or are they somewhere else? And while the original film was definitely a Michael Jordan starring feature it still had the Looney Tunes as the central characters. They sought out Michael Jordan to help them win a basketball game. A New Legacy looks like it is the other way around. LeBron James needs to win a basketball game and he’s stuck with the Looney Tunes as backup. And, with the acting I saw in that trailer, more LeBron on screen can only be a bad thing.
I could go about how this film looks like a clusterfuck, but I want to make sure I don’t cover everything bad with this trailer to save some stuff for you — the readers — to comment down below. Honestly, whose idea was it to shove every Warner Bros. property into one film and then have LeBron James be the focus?! It’s insanity!
