The Beekeeper is getting a sequel.
According to Deadline, Jason Statham is set to reprise his role as retired clandestine human intelligence operative Adam Clay in a sequel to the 2024 action movie. The sequel, titled The Beekeeper 2, is in the works at Miramax with the production eyeing a Fall 2025 start.
David Ayer, who helmed The Beekeeper and Statham’s upcoming A Working Man, will not be back in the director’s chair due to commitments with Paramount’s The Heart of the Beast. Instead, Timo Tjahjanto will direct The Beekeeper 2. The Indonesian filmmaker’s directorial credits include May the Devil Take You, The Night Comes for Us, The Shadow Strays, and the upcoming Nobody 2.
Although Ayer won’t be directing, Miramax is hopeful that he will agree to return in a producing capacity. Kurt Wimmer returned to write the screenplay for The Beekeeper 2. Plot details remain under wraps. As for who might distribute, Amazon MGM Studios is reportedly interested in handling domestic rights. The studio distributed the first film in theaters last year where it raked in over $150 million worldwide.
The Beekeeper 2 joins a long list of action movies starring Statham that fans can look forward to over the next few years. The actor will be seen next in the aforementioned A Working Man, which boasts a screenplay by Sylvester Stallone and hits theaters at the end of March. Lionsgate also recently set a 2026 release date for the action thriller Mutiny. There’s also an untitled action flick that Statham is currently filming in the United Kingdom. Ric Roman Waugh is directing the feature, which also stars Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Bill Nighy, Naomi Ackie, and Daniel Mays.
The Beekeeper 2 does not yet have a supporting cast or release date. We’ll keep you posted when it does.
