‘The Courier’ Trailer: Benedict Cumberbatch is a Businessman Turned Spy

Lionsgate has released an official trailer for The Courier, a true-life cold war thriller starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

I don’t know why, but I can never find myself showing any excitement towards a true story film starring Cumberbatch. I think he is a great actor, but aside from Sherlock and Doctor Strange, I don’t really care what else he is in. His biopics look like snores or the trailers just don’t sell the film that good.

I mean maybe I will go see The Courier. It actually looks like there could be some dramatic tension woven into the plot I might find interesting. I just (obviously) happen to think Cumberbatch is at his best when he is playing characters who think too highly of themselves or have a large ego.

Plot Synopsis:

The Courier is a true-life spy thriller, the story of an unassuming British businessman Greville Wynne (Benedict Cumberbatch) recruited into one of the greatest international conflicts in history. At the behest of the UK’s MI-6 and a CIA operative (Rachel Brosnahan), he forms a covert, dangerous partnership with Soviet officer Oleg Penkovsky (Merab Ninidze) in an effort to provide crucial intelligence needed to prevent a nuclear confrontation and defuse the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The Courier hits theaters March 19, 2021.
