The Simpsons are finally heading back to the big screen.
Disney has officially announced The Simpsons Movie 2, setting the animated sequel for release in theaters on July 23, 2027. This will mark a 20-year gap between the sequel and the first Simpsons Movie, which hit theaters back in 2007.
Plot details remain under wraps, although 20th Century Studios confirmed the news on social media by sharing a teaser poster, which features Homer Simpson snagging a pink donut covered with sprinkles in the shape of the numeral 2. The caption reads, “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”

A sequel to The Simpsons Movie was first confirmed by producer Al Jean in 2020, who at the time said that another movie was “in the very very early stages” of development. “We would love to do one for Disney but it’s not like it’s happening next week or next year. …At D23 Matt said, ‘I think it’s gonna happen’ and I agree with that. So I agree with that statement. I believe it will happen. [But] we would only do [another film] if it was an idea that we thought deserved being made into another movie. We certainly don’t need to have more Simpsons out there just for the money or to have additional material. We would do it if we thought it was a great story and we wanted to tell it,” he added.
