Warner Bros. Shuffles Movie Schedule; ‘The Batman’, ‘Shazam 2’ Among Those Delayed

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Sony just delayed Venom: Let There Be Carnage, so it only makes sense that Warner Bros. would also delay some of their superhero films.

Since The Batman won’t be able to complete production on time (thanks a lot COVID-19), Warner Bros. has pushed the film from a summer 2021 release to October 1, 2021. They have also decided to push Shazam! 2 from April 1, 2022 to November 4, 2022, and bump up The Flash a week from its original release to June 3, 2022. So does that mean Ezra Miller is still The Flash, Warner Bros.?

On the non-superhero front, the studio has pushed the Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark from a fall 2020 release to March 12, 2021. The untitled Elvis Presley biopic has been pushed back a month to November 5, 2021 (I smell Oscar bait).

At this point, the only major film from any studio that has not been changed due to COVID-19 is Warner Bros.’s Tenet. Cinemax is hoping to reopen in July so there’s a chance that Tenet will be the first major blockbuster audiences have a chance to see.

Here’s how the new DC Extended Universe release schedule looks:

It will be interesting to see how Shazam! 2 addresses the time gap, since all of the kids are going to be three-to-four years older and no doubt will have hit their growth spurts. Does Billy Batson in high school still work? It could, but he’d sure start to be stepping on Peter Parker’s toes.

What do you think of the upcoming DCEU film slate? Do you think Black Adam and Aquaman 2 could also be delayed?
