Countdown (2019)
“When a nurse downloads an app that claims to predict the moment a person will die, it tells her she only has three days to live. With the clock ticking and a figure haunting her, she must find a way to save her life before time runs out.”
I dislike my teenager because of this god awful movie. The new age your time is up “thriller” in the same vein as Final Destination and The Ring but dumbed to 11 with absolutely no tension and the lamest kills is just boring as can be. Slap on some superficial social commentary and you have a complete waste of time. (1.5/5)
The Fly (1986)
A brilliant but eccentric scientist begins to transform into a giant man/fly hybrid after one of his experiments goes horribly wrong.
You can read my overall thoughts on the movie here. When I watch a great movie multiple times, I usually try to focus on one aspect of the film and this time was Geena Davis’ character, Ronnie. She did such a wonderful job and you could feel her love for Brundle through the screen. You could also feel her pain at having to lose someone she cared so much about to something so tragic. (4.5/5)
Bone Tomahawk (2015)
In the dying days of the old west, an elderly sheriff and his posse set out to rescue their town’s doctor from cannibalistic cave dwellers.
I admire how Zahler really takes his time and lets things simmer during his films. It feels like you are watching the distraught and hurt husband travel by foot for an hour straight during the movie. All it does is really hammer home his desperation to save his wife which draws you into his character and circumstances all the more. Richard Jenkins as Chicory and the brutality of this film are worth the watch alone. (4.25/5)
About Time (2013)
At the age of 21, Tim discovers he can travel in time and change what happens and has happened in his own life. His decision to make his world a better place by getting a girlfriend turns out not to be as easy as you might think.
This movie started off a bit rough by being pretty bland and unengaging but once it gets into the full swing of the central relationship, I was hooked. Gleeson and McAdams are dorkily cute together and there is a solid message here of living each day with a purpose. (3.5/5)
