Zach Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’ Payday Reportedly Revealed

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Sony is betting big on Zach Cregger.

According to a recent Puck report (via Screen Rant), Cregger is set to earn $20 million for writing, directing, and producing his Resident Evil reboot. This salary, which is reportedly normally reserved for veteran directors, is on top of the 20 backend points he has, meaning he will get a sliver of the film’s box office gross. These points are non-reducible with no option on sequels.

That’s a lot of fancy industry jargon to basically say that Cregger will be able to solely fund any passion project he wants post-Resident Evil. Sony recently handed out a 2026 release date for the reboot of the beloved video game series.

“I’ve been a rabid fan of these games for decades, and to be able to bring this amazing title to life is a true honor,” said Cregger in a statement at the time.

Added Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group: “Zach is one of the most talented exciting new directors to come on the scene in many years. His brilliant approach in restarting and refreshing this legendary Sony franchise instantly makes this one of our most important releases in 2026.”

Resident Evil is scheduled to hit theaters on September 18, 2026. We’ll keep you posted once casting gets underway.
