A recent report from MCU Cosmic suggests that Marvel Studios may have gained the full distribution rights to Hulk and Namor from Universal.
The site states that they’ve “heard from someone very reliable that Marvel has gained full control of Hulk (and Namor) so those pesky distribution hurdles no longer exist.”
If this is true, that means that Marvel has acquired the rights back to all of its characters except for the Spider-Verse. Curse you Sony! *shakes fist*
The Incredible Hulk never took off at the box office the same way Iron Man did back in 2008. Edward Norton has recently talked about his original plans for the green giant, including making the sequel tonally similar to The Dark Knight.
I also know that Ruffalo and Feige have discussed the future of Bruce Banner/The Hulk, so perhaps a new solo film is on the way. If not, I hope Ruffalo makes an appearance in the upcoming She-Hulk series.
As for Namor, he’s been rumored to appear in both the Black Panther and Doctor Strange sequels. MCU Cosmic states its “very doubtful they’d ever do a solo Namor movie (due to the success of Aquaman) but they’ll use him as both a villain and potential future Avenger.” I’m pretty sure Marvel could find a good spin on Namor that wouldn’t just be a retread of Aquaman. Maybe he should be the villain in Black Panther II before spinning off into his own solo film.
Would you be excited for Marvel to distribute future solo Hulk films? Do you think a Namor solo film would work? Let us know in the comments below.
