The Canon: An Essential Movies Watchlist and Total Recast will not be muting their mics anytime soon.
ScreenAge Podcasts has renewed both podcasts for a third and second season, respectively. The news comes shortly after The Canon wrapped up its second season on November 22 with an episode dedicated to The Shawshank Redemption.
Raf Stitt, who hosts, edits, and produces The Canon, previously revealed on social media site X that the podcast would be back “bigger and better than ever” next year. Season 3 will consist of 15 episodes.
In each episode of the film podcast, Stitt brings on one to three guests to discuss one of the entries in the ScreenAge Wasteland Canon — a collection of films from the dawn of cinema to today that SAW argues needs to be watched by any burgeoning cinephile.
Production on The Canon Season 3 is scheduled to commence before the year comes to a close with a Q1 2024 premiere being targeted by ScreenAge Podcasts.
Total Recast, a revival of the 2021 podcast of the same name, features co-hosts Sailor Monsoon and Marmaduke Karlston recasting classic movies with today’s actors. The renewal comes ahead of the podcast’s Season 1 finale on December 12. We can exclusively reveal that a Christmas special has also been recorded and will be released this holiday season.
Season 2 of Total Recast will consist of 12 episodes plus a special. Like The Canon, production is expected to begin before the end of 2023. A Spring 2024 release window is being eyed by ScreenAge Podcasts.
“We’re excited to bring back The Canon and Total Recast podcasts with new episodes beginning in 2024,” said Marmaduke Karlston, Chief Creative Officer, ScreenAge Wasteland & ScreenAge Podcasts. “We’re thrilled that screenagers have been listening and we cannot wait for them to see what we have planned for the future.”
