Which Batman Villain Deserves a Limited Series Like ‘The Penguin’ Next?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.

Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.

The Penguin has concluded. You can share your thoughts on the finale (and the series as a whole) here. (Did you do it? Okay, let’s continue.) The Penguin has been praised for its expansion of Matt Reeves’ The Batman Epic Crime Saga (yes, that’s its official name) and for keeping Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb a villain instead of trying to humanize him (like Sony did with Venom). I mean, people are calling this one of the best series ever made, not just in the superhero genre but across everything.

There was some chatter last week that a series based on Barry Keoghan’s The Joker would bridge the gap between The Batman Part II and The Batman Part III. However, James Gunn quickly shut that down, stating that nothing had ever been discussed or greenlit yet. While The Joker could still happen, there are a slew of other Batman villains that could realistically headline their own series. Reeves has certainly said that they have ideas for more limited series, so, the question I ask today is: who should get a limited series next?

Catwoman seems like the obvious choice, although maybe too obvious. I mean, who thought the Penguin was a big enough character to headline his own show before The Penguin? So, what about Mr. Freeze? It could show his descent into villainy as he tries to find a cure for his wife’s ailment. It would be a prequel set before he becomes the cold-hearted villain, setting the stage for a face-off against Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight in The Batman Part III or (fingers crossed) Part IV.

So what about you, screenagers? Which Batman villain deserves The Penguin treatment next?

I’ll see you in the trenches.
