The Universal Monsters franchise is getting reimagined yet again.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wolf Man, a reboot of the 1941 classic film, is moving forward at Universal Studios and Blumhouse.
However, Ryan Gosling is no longer set to star in the werewolf thriller with Poor Things‘ Christopher Abbott taking his place. Gosling will remain involved as an executive producer.
Derek Cianfrance has also departed as director. Leigh Whannell, who was initially attached back when the project was first announced in 2020, has signed back on to helm the feature.
Plot details are being kept under wraps but the film will reportedly focus on “a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.” Whannell and Corbett Tuck, as well as Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, wrote the script.
Wolf Man is scheduled to hit theaters on October 25, 2024.
