Casting Updates: Keanu Reeves Is Shadow the Hedgehog, Julia Garner Is the MCU’s Silver Surfer & Glen Powell Is ‘The Running Man’

Here’s a trio of casting announcements that will leave you excited if you’re a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Stephen King.


Per The Hollywood Reporter, Keanu Reeves will voice Shadow the Hedgehog in Paramount‘s upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3. He joins a cast that includes Ben Schwartz as Sonic the Hedgehog, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Miles “Tails” Prower, Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna, and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, among others.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 opens in theaters on December 20, 2024.


According to Deadline, Ozark star Julia Garner will be Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer in Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four. She is the fifth actor to join the hotly-anticipated reboot after Pedro Pascal (Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing).

The Fantastic Four hits theaters on July 25, 2025.


Deadline also reports that Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You) will headline Paramount’s The Running Man remake. Edgar Wright is directing this new version of the classic King novel, which was originally published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. The Running Man was previously adapted to film in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the title role.

A release date for The Running Man has not been set yet.
