Check Out ‘Blade Runner’ Inspired Short Film ‘Slice of Life’

Reading Time: < 1 minute

I’ve always thought the world of Blade Runner was full of storytelling potential. Apparently I’m not alone. While Slice of Life doesn’t advertise itself as a Blade Runner fan film, that’s what it is. And boy does it nail the vibe of the 1982 Ridley Scott cult classic. Everything about Slice of Life from the aesthetics to the music, sound design, editing, and cinematography feels like it was footage cut out of Scott’s landmark film. But the great thing about this little fan film is that it doesn’t try to tell the same story. There are no blade runners or replicants in this film. It’s an entirely original story just set in the Blade Runner universe.

I really dug this, man. I mean, I dug it enough that I’ll probably go back and rewatch it just to gawk at it some more. And it’s even more impressive when you find out this was mostly shot in a garage using practical SFX-like miniatures and matte paintings. If you like sci-fi and/or Blade Runner, you’re gonna wanna take the 25 minutes to watch Slice of Life.
