Donnie Yen to Star in ‘John Wick’ Spinoff Movie

Lionsgate is developing a John Wick spinoff movie around the fan-favorite character, Caine, with Donnie Yen reprising the role.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the untitled John Wick: Chapter 4 spinoff is set to begin production in Hong Kong in 2025. No director is attached yet, but Robert Askins is writing the screenplay for the movie, which will pick up with Caine after the events of Chapter 4.

Fans might remember that Chapter 4 featured a post-credits scene of Caine returning to Paris to reunite with his daughter only to be approached by a vengeful, knife-wielding Akira. Whether the movie will begin directly where the post-credits scene ended remains unknown at this time.

“Working on John Wick: Chapter 4 was an extraordinary experience. The reason these films resonate so deeply is because, like myself, Chad, Basil and Erica push themselves to create action, fights and stunts that are not only thrilling, inventive and artistic, but also expressive of character, story and emotion. Caine is an incredible character with a haunted past, and I am excited to return to the role,” Yen said in a statement.

Chad Stahelski (the Kevin Feige of the John Wick Universe) is developing the spinoff as part of a recently announced deal with Lionsgate to expand the franchise. The untitled Caine movie will be the next project released after John Wick Presents: Ballerina.

“From the moment Donnie Yen appeared on screen in John Wick: Chapter 4, he captivated audiences and created an authentic, emotional connection that left an indelible mark and had fans asking for more,” Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in his own statement.

No release date for the untitled movie, which I’m betting will end up being called John Wick Presents: Caine, has been announced yet.
