Every year there are scores of TV shows and movies that get greenlit that should never see the light of day. They pollute the digital landscape with their shittiness and clog our streaming feeds with their mundanity (is that a word?). But every now and then, something comes along that would absolutely cut through the clutter and leave its mark on the pop culture. And then some suit decides not to release it, and all we are left with are the promises of what could have–what should have been.
One such show is Korgoth of Barbaria.
Written and created by Aaron Springer and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, Korgoth of Barbaria aired as a pilot on The Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim in the summer of 2006. Despite being well-received both critically and commercially, the series was canceled, never to be revived.
Fortunately, the pilot has survived in various places on the internet, most conveniently, YouTube. Over the next several days, we will be sharing that pilot in bite-sized chunks (because millennials don’t have the attention span for anything beyond a couple of minutes).
If you’ve never seen Korgoth of Barbaria, beware! You will love it, and you will want more of it. And you will despair at the fact that The Real Housewives of Orange County spawned a multi-decade franchise consisting of 11 domestic and 32 international shows, many of which ran for several seasons, and nearly 50 spin-offs and associated series, but this brilliant animated show couldn’t even get one measly season on The Cartoon Network. Don’t say I didn’t want you.
So without further ado, I give you Part Seven of Korgoth of Barbaria.
PART SIX
What did you think about Part Seven of Korgoth of Barbaria? Had you heard of this show? Maybe you are one of the lucky few who saw it in the summer of 2006. Regardless, let us know what you think in the comments below, and we’ll see you tomorrow for Part Eight.
