Peacock is about to learn all about fast cars and family.
Per Variety, at least one live-action Fast & Furious series is in the works for the streaming service. The announcement was made onstage at the NBCUniversal upfront presentation on Monday by franchise star Vin Diesel.
“For the last decade, we have realized that the fans have wanted more,” Diesel said. “They wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories. And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space that [Jimmy] Fallon[, who was on stage with Diesel,] has mastered. And I had to wait till it was right… It became right when Donna Langley started to oversee it all, because that’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family would be protected in the TV space… The news that I have here today is that Peacock is launching four shows from the Fast and Furious universe.”
Now, for those who follow Diesel on Instagram or are all too well aware of how the guy conducts his business, Variety knows an individual with knowledge of the situation who claims that only one Fast & Furious series is actually in development at Peacock, not four. It sounds like more could be on the way, but only one is close to entering the next stage of production at Universal TV.
Plot details for the show are being kept under wraps. Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers in addition to writing the pilot. Diesel is attached as an executive producer via his One Race Films.
Vin Diesel Is Right… We Did Want Fast on TV a Decade Ago
The Fast franchise pivoting to television when interest in the series is at an all-time low is mindboggling. The time to do it was a decade ago, like Diesel suggests, when the franchise’s popularity was at an all-time high with Furious 7. Nobody cares about this franchise anymore, and I’m a huge fan. I think I like Fast the most here in the Wasteland, but even I don’t need to see more. Just give me Fast Forever. Sorry, Dom, but it’s time to race your final quarter mile.
The Fast & Furious series doesn’t have a release window yet, but it will stream exclusively on Peacock. As for Fast Forever, it’s currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 17, 2028.
