Vanity Fair has released the first look at Guillermo del Toro‘s Frankenstein. Much of the Netflix movie, including the laboratory scene shown in the image above, takes place within the remnants of once-great structures.
“Gothic romance was born partially out of the fascination with ruins,” del Toro told VF about his upcoming adaptation of the classic Mary Shelley novel.”Sometimes they’re more beautiful than the building complete because it’s the clash of creation and destruction.”
Oscar Isaac stars as Victor Frankenstein while Jacob Elordi portrays Frankenstein’s monster. The cast also includes Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, Felix Kammerer, and Christoph Waltz.
Frankenstein is expected to debut on Netflix in 2025.
