Freddie Prinze Jr. is officially returning for the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel.

According to Variety, Prinze has officially signed on to reprise his role from the first two IKWYDLS movies as Ray Bronson. The actor has been in talks to join the legacy sequel for some time now. Jennifer Love Hewitt, who portrayed Prinze’s love interest in the first two movies, remains in talks to also return for the legacy sequel.

So far, besides Prinze, the cast for I Know What You Did Last Summer includes Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King. Camila Mendes was supposed to be in the film, but the Riverdale actor recently exited the project due to scheduling conflicts with Amazon’s Masters of the Universe reboot.

It’s unclear where the upcoming sequel will pick up, but the original I Know What You Did Last Summer follows four teens from a small seaside town stalked by a hook-wielding killer one year after covering up a car accident that was believed to be fatal.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) is directing the follow-up in the horror franchise. She also co-wrote the script with Sam Lansky from a draft by Leah McKendrick. Sony Pictures will release the legacy sequel in theaters on July 18, 2025, meaning that filming will likely begin within the coming months.
