Game of Thrones is officially working on two different versions of King Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beau Willimon (Andor, House of Cards) is writing the Game of Thrones movie at Warner Bros., which will be a feature-length, Dune-sized version of the story of King Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros.
Here’s the head-scratching part. HBO is already working on a series based on Aegon’s conquest, with Mattson Tomlin coming aboard in February 2024 as head writer. Why WB feels the need to compete with HBO is beyond my basic understanding of how Hollywood works.
A Game of Thrones movie was first reported to be in development in late 2024. So far, the franchise has stuck to the small screen after the original series ended in 2019, with the spinoff prequels House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Both were recently renewed.
We’ll keep you posted on which version of Aegon’s conquest ends up getting made.
Do you want a Game of Thrones movie, or should the franchise stick to television?
