The next Godzilla x Kong movie has found its director.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Grant Sputore has been tapped to helm the untitled follow-up, which will be the sixth film in Legendary‘s MonsterVerse. He is best known for directing the 2019 science fiction movie, I Am Mother, starring Hilary Swank.
Adam Wingard, who directed Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024), was revealed to not be returning for the next installment back in May. Wingard’s departure comes down to, yes, scheduling, but the parting of ways was amicable. It seems that Wingard wanted to direct a non-MonsterVerse movie
(the upcoming A24 movie Onslaught) before jumping back in while Legendary wanted to get the next movie into production ASAP.
Dave Callaham, who wrote Shang-Chi and Across the Spider-Verse, scripted the upcoming Godzilla x Kong movie. Across five movies, the MonsterVerse franchise has grossed over $2.5 billion at the box office.
