Get ready to return to the world of Jumanji in 2026.
Per Deadline, Sony has announced a sequel to its 2019 movie, Jumanji: The Next Level, with Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan in talks to return as the video game avatars of the humans who get sucked into the titular video game.
Now, Sony is referring to this movie as Jumanji 3, which is just plain stupid. The Next Level is Jumanji 3. Sure, it’s the third installment in the reboot series, but they’re still legacy sequels to the original 1995 movie starring Robin Williams. So yeah, on ScreenAge Wasteland, we’ll be referring to this next installment as Jumanji 4.
As for when Jumanji 4 will theaters, well Sony has dated the movie for release on December 11, 2026. Jake Kasdan, who directed the previous two entries, is also in talks to return. Also back to produce are Matt Tolmach, Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Kasdan.
After Spider-Man, Jumanji is Sony’s biggest franchise (surprising, right). 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle grossed an insane $962 million worldwide, while The Next Level did $801 million in 2019. Once you toss in the original movie, the franchise’s global box office total climbs to just past $2 billion. Yeah, no wonder Sony wants a sequel.
We’ll keep you posted as casting comes together for this one.
Are you ready for another Jumanji movie? Do you hope Danny DeVito returns?
