Sorry, KPop Demon Hunters fans, but it looks like you’ll be waiting a few years for a sequel.
According to Bloomberg (via Variety), Netflix and Sony have finalized a deal for another KPop Demon Hunters movie, with plans to release the animated musical sequel in 2029. Both studios declined to comment.
KPop Demon Hunters has been an unexpected hit for Netflix this year, with the animated fantasy adventure about a fictional K-pop girl group who protect the world from demons with their music becoming the streamer’s most popular movie ever. The movie’s original music has also charted on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
But seriously, how big of a deal is KPop Demon Hunters actually? Well, Netflix, who is allergic to theatrical releases, has released the animated movie not once, but twice in theaters so far, making about $25 million collectively. Not exactly breaking the box office, but also pretty damn good for a movie that was on streaming for months before Netflix decided to throw it in theaters.
