Lionsgate‘s Monopoly movie may actually end up being good, dare I say great, now.
According to Deadline, John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein have closed a deal to write a screenplay based on Hasbro‘s classic board game Monopoly. The movie will be produced by LuckyChap and Hasbro Entertainment. Lionsgate extended its development rights to the beloved board game with its purchase of eOne, which was completed in December 2023.
“We knew LuckyChap would be a beacon for the best talent in town, and Lionsgate & Hasbro are thrilled that Goldstein & Daley have decided to join the fun,” said Erin Westerman, co-president, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “We’ve been long-time admirers of their work—telling bold, original, intelligent stories for all audiences. They are the perfect architects for this franchise.”
Daley & Goldstein have become known for fresh and original takes on popular IP, evidenced most recently in the criminally underseen Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Next up for the filmmakers is the Apple TV+ movie Mayday starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, which will be released later this year. The duo is also known for Horrible Bosses, Vacation, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Game Night.
