Step aside Christian Bale, a new American Psycho is soon to be discovered.

According to Deadline, Luca Guadagnino — the acclaimed filmmaker behind Call Me By Your Name and Suspiria, as well as this year’s Challengers and Queer — is in final negotiations to direct a new interpretation of Bret Easton Ellis’ American Psycho novel.

The project, which is not being labeled a remake since it’s a new adaptation of the novel and not the 2000 movie, is set up at Lionsgate. Scott Z. Burns will pen the adaptation.

“We are thrilled to add another elite filmmaker to our upcoming slate,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson. “Luca is a brilliant artist, and the perfect visionary to create a whole new interpretation of this potent and classic IP.”

For the unfamiliar, American Psycho focuses on Manhattan investment banker turned serial killer, Patrick Bateman, played by Bale in the 2000 adaptation. The original movie has become a modern-day classic and has appeared across a number of our Top 10/50/100 “Greatest” lists.

We’ll keep you posted as this project comes together.
