Luca Guadagnino Wishes He Had Directed ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Movies

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Well, here’s something I wasn’t expecting to read. Luca Guadagnino wishes he had directed Andrew Garfield in Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man duology.

While at the Marrakech Film Festival where he’s serving on Guadagnino’s jury alongside Jacob Elordi, Andrew Garfield said (via Variety) he’s “had to work very hard to have less people ask questions about Spider-Man,” although he admitted that he was “grateful for that time” because “it allowed [him] to maybe have an easier shot at working with people like Martin Scorsese straight after.”

This prompted Guadagnino to remark that he found Spider-Man to be a “fascinating superhero.” Here’s his full quote:

“I remember when Sam Raimi directed his first one, and I was 28 or 29, I had these dreams because I’m kind of a megalomaniac, and I wished I had been asked to do one. So I wish I had directed you in Spider-Man,” Guadagnino said, looking at Garfield who was seating on his left.

How would have The Amazing Spider-Man movies turned out if Guadagnino had directed them instead of Marc Webb? Would we have gotten The Amazing Spider-Man 3? One can only ponder the question… What if?
