Warner Bros. Discovery‘s streaming service is getting rebranded again, or, at least, the last coat of paint it received is getting peeled back. HBO Max is back is what I’m trying to say!
You know the story. The streamer launched in 2020 as HBO Max and dropped HBO from its name in 2023 (in a move that proved controversial). But now, two years later, HBO will be added back to the name, beginning this summer. Why? Well, WBD President and CEO David Zaslav has, of course, come up with a way to spin this as a positive.
“The powerful growth we have seen in our global streaming service is built around the quality of our programming,” Zaslav said. “Today, we are bringing back HBO, the brand that represents the highest quality in media, to further accelerate that growth in the years ahead.”
Added chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, Casey Bloys:
“With the course we are on and strong momentum we are enjoying, we believe HBO Max far better represents our current consumer proposition. And it clearly states our implicit promise to deliver content that is recognized as unique and, to steal a line we always said at HBO, worth paying for.”
The new HBO Max logo can be viewed above. The announcement was made during the company’s upfront presentation in New York at Madison Square Garden earlier today.
Will this make you subscribe to HBO Max?
