Round One Round Up

I figured this would be a more competitive Movie Madness than we have ever had, and the first round didn’t disappoint. Several upsets, plenty of near upsets, a few one-vote wins, and only one 100% winner.

Tarantino Region:

No real upsets here as #1 seed Pulp Fiction and #2 The Silence of the Lambs move on pretty easily. Titanic and Leon barely won their respective matches against Forrest Gump and Dazed & Confused by one vote each.

There are some tough Round 2 matchups with Trainspotting taking on a SAW favorite in Point Break and Fargo facing one of the ultimate man movies in Tombstone.

Spielberg Region:

Pretty much all blowouts here with no upsets, but The Usual Suspects beating A League of Their Own by one vote is surprising. I don’t see Suspects making it much further before it gets terminated by T2.

Also, in the next round of this region, Heat vs. LA Confidential is an interesting matchup, with Saving Private Ryan vs. Se7en being one of the most difficult decisions for me yet.

Scorsese Region:

Several tight races here with Speed, True Romance, The Big Lebowski, and Boogie Nights all moving on by just a few votes. The biggest nail-biter in this region was Good Will Hunting beating The Nightmare Before Christmas by one vote.

Every matchup in round two of this region is going to be a difficult decision for me, at least. These are too tough to predict, even though I suspect Goodfellas, Jurassic Park, and Shawshank to move on. Lebowski vs True Romance is a true toss-up.

Wachowski Region:

The biggest surprise in this region is that the only 100% winner of the tournament being Reservoir Dogs, who demolished Glengarry Glen Ross. Both Scream and Unforgiven lose by one vote to Blair Witch and A Few Good Men, respectively.

Fight Club vs Reservoir Dogs in round two seems like a battle for the ages, with Misery vs The Sixth Sense being another possible nail-biter.

Let us know the movies you voted for and which movie you would like to win the whole thing! Were there any matchups that you had a tough time deciding on what to vote for?

You must select a winner for each matchup. If you haven’t seen a movie from that matchup, just pick whichever movie you think deserves to win, and then go watch those movies!
