Happy March Screenagers! It’s Oscar month, which means it’s the perfect time to catch up on all the great 2025 stuff you missed. Because of that, I’m focusing on just movies this month, but I’ll be back to including some good TV stuff in April. Quite a few of these films have moved from VOD to streaming fairly recently, and these are just a few of the ones I recommend checking out.
HBO Max: If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You (2025)

Rose Byrne gives possibly her greatest performance of all-time in this painful, heart-wrenching drama. If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You is a painful, hard-to-watch drama about a mother living in a constant state of overwhelm. Her child has a rare disorder, and though they are off-screen for most of the runtime, the stress of their constant needs seeps onto the viewer, and we start to feel the mother’s desperation for someone, anyone, to give her a break. Though emotionally trying, it’s an excellent watch and ultimately a beautiful story about finding what’s important.
FOR FANS OF: Sorry, Baby, The Fighter
Hulu: Weapons (2025)

If you’ve somehow managed to stay spoiler-free on this movie despite the state of the internet, go watch Weapons tonight. Cregger’s second directorial film follows a classroom of students who go missing under less than normal circumstances, and members of the town working to figure out what happened. It’s a fun mystery, but its strength is in its horror and truly nuts energy. When you watch it, you’ll understand why Amy Madigan has the supporting actress nod, and why Cregger fans are so excited to see what he does next.
FOR FANS OF: Longlegs, Doctor Sleep
Netflix: KPop Demon Hunters (2025)

I get it, you’re probably sick to death of hearing about this movie. I avoided it for months because I felt that way! Then I finally watched it, and it’s worth the hype. The soundtrack is the star of this film, but it also features really great characters and comedy that sticks the landing. While primarily aimed at teens, it’s got plenty for adults too. It’s just a fun watch, and it’s been great to see this passion project get so much love online.
FOR FANS OF: Nimona, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
HBO Max: Sinners (2025)

Another one that’s a constant in online discourse, Sinners is also worth the hype. I finally got to rewatch it last week after my initial IMAX viewing, and it still hits just as hard with in-home viewing. Coogler has crafted such an incredible original vampire story, and the collaboration between him and Goranson just creates something very special. It’s equal parts horrifying and beautiful, and movies for years down the line will still be working to imitate it.
FOR FANS OF: Candyman (2021), His House
Netflix: Train Dreams (2025)

By far the most beautiful film on this list, Train Dreams follows the life of Robert Grainer as he works as a logger in the Northwest. I wouldn’t describe it as wholesome, as Robert faces a good deal of tragedy and adversity, but it’s ultimately a hopeful story about life and the beautiful part each of us play in building this world. I didn’t get the chance to catch it until after the nomination, but it’s a crime that this film only got a limited release. It would have been great to catch in IMAX, and maybe some day Netflix will get the message and stop leaving money on the table.
FOR FANS OF: Pig, The Life of Chuck
