Pixar at D23: ‘Incredibles 3’ Announced, ‘Toy Story 5’ Story Details Revealed, New Movie ‘Hoppers’ Sets 2026 Release

Pixar made some incredible announcements during this year’s D23 Expo.

Pete Docter announced during D23’s big Friday night presentation that Brad Bird, writer/director of the first two Incredibles films, is currently working on the next installment in the beloved superhero franchise. Further details, including a release date and voice cast, were not revealed.

Docter also announced that Andrew Stanton, director of Finding Nemo and writer of all the Toy Story movies, would write and direct Toy Story 5. He also shared that the fifth movie would focus on the toys being overlooked for technology, with concept art showing a child (presumably Bonnie) staring at a tablet underneath a blanket while the toys look on sadly. Woody is also there, so are we going to quickly retcon the ending of Toy Story 4?

“The toys’ jobs get exponentially harder when our toy crew goes head-to-head with what kids are obsessed with today: electronics,” said Stanton. “There is serious competition with phones and tablets everywhere. So this time around, it’s toys meet tech.”

However, it wasn’t all sequel talk for Pixar, as Docter announced a new movie, Hoppers, about a girl, Mabel (Piper Curda), whose mind is transported into the body of a life-like robotic beaver thanks to ground-breaking technology. Bobby Moynihan will voice a beaver king, while Jon Hamm will voice a villainous human mayor.

Incredibles 3 does not yet have a release date, but here are when the next three Pixar movies hit theaters: Elio on June 13, 2025, Hoppers on March 6, 2026, and Toy Story 5 on June 19, 2026.
