Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.
Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.
When someone thinks of Quentin Tarantino, they think of his original movies like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, or Kill Bill. Across nine films, only one has been based on an IP: 1997’s Jackie Brown, an adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel Rum Punch. So, you’d be forgiven if you thought Tarantino would never touch a franchise film, but you’d also be wrong.
While it’s unlikely his tenth and final film will be based on an IP, Tarantino has not shied away from almost making several franchise films in the past. He toyed with doing movies in the 1990s based on Luke Cage, Silver Surfer, and Iron Man, pitched a story idea for Halloween 6, expressed interest in directing Casino Royale as well as remakes of First Blood and Less Than Zero, and, perhaps most notably, came pretty damn close to writing a Star Trek movie.
So, yeah, if the right IP came along, I think Tarantino would do it. So let’s say it did, meaning the question I ask today is: what IP is Tarantino directing?
I have to say that Luke Cage by Tarantino sounds pretty damn cool. Although for the sake of offering up something new, how about he directs Lethal Finale, the long-gestating fifth installment in the Lethal Weapon franchise.
So what about you, screenagers? What franchise would you want to see Tarantino leave his mark on?
I’ll see you in the trenches.
