The cast of Scream 2.

Scream 7 has added another franchise alum to its cast, and yes, it’s someone who is supposed to be dead. This is your first and final spoiler warning. Proceed with caution.

According to DeadlineDavid Arquette will appear in Scream 7, reprising his role from the first five installments in the long-running slasher franchise as Deputy Dewey Riley. The fan-favorite character was killed off in 2022’s Scream, much to the disappointment of the fandom.

Arquette becomes the latest franchise alum to board Scream 7 as a dead character, joining Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard. Other returning actors whose characters are still breathing include Courteney Cox, Neve Campbell, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Newcomers to the Scream universe include Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mark Consuelos, and Ethan Embry.

I’ve been following the online chatter as to how these character returns might make sense, but I won’t spoil it here. All I’ll say is that Scream has never been one to shy away from using modern technology.

Directed by Scream creator Kevin Williamson, Scream 7 is scheduled to hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
