Jim Carrey is seemingly no longer allergic to sequels.

The actor, who hated the sequel to Ace Ventura so much that he swore off sequels for almost two decades, has come around to the idea of revisiting some of his most iconic roles. While speaking with ComicBook, Carrey revealed that he would be open to returning as Stanley Ipkiss in a sequel to 1994’s The Mask.

“Oh gosh, you know, it has to be the right idea. If somebody had the right idea, I guess… It’s not really about the money. I joke about the money… But I never know. You can’t be definite about these things. I said I’d like to retire, but I think I was talking more about power-resting. Because as soon as a good idea comes your way, or a group of people that you really enjoyed working with and stuff, it just – things tend to change.”

So, it sounds like Hollywood needs to come up with a great script for The Mask 2 before Carrey makes any definite return plans.

The actor also revealed to ComicBook that he’d play The Grinch again, but only if the Dr. Seuss-created character was brought to life via motion capture/CG instead of makeup, explaining:

“Oh, gosh, you know, if we could figure out the Grinch… The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe. It was an extremely excruciating process.”

“The children were in my mind all the time. ‘It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.’ And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things. Anything is possible in this world.”

Fans can check out Carrey in his first threequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where he reprises his role of Doctor Robotnik, when it hits theaters on December 20, 2024.
