‘The Mighty Ducks’ TV Series Adds Emilio Estevez & Lauren Graham

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Mighty Ducks is welcoming back a former duck and a couple of new ones.

The upcoming Disney+ series has just cast its two leads: Lauren Graham and Brady Noon as a mother and her son. The series is set in present-day Minnesota, where “the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan (Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex (Graham) set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports.”

The series will continue where the film trilogy left off meaning that its going to need some familiar faces. Maybe, the mightiest duck of them all?

Variety has confirmed that Emilio Estevez is set to reprise the role of Gordon Bombay for the sequel series. In a statement, Estevez said:

“Once a Duck, always a Duck! After 25 years, I am delighted to lace up my skates, put on Coach Bombay’s jacket and return to play the iconic character for this new chapter in ‘The Mighty Ducks’ franchise.  Likewise, I am thrilled to return to my old stomping grounds with my friends at Disney and Steve Brill, the original creator of the franchise, to join them on their exciting new platform, Disney Plus.”

The Mighty Ducks is beginning to look like must-see-TV for fans of the original franchise. In addition to Estevez returning, original creator and writer Steve Brill is back as well. The 10-episode original series begins production this month in Vancouver and is slated to premiere later this year on Disney+.
