Peacock‘s The Office spinoff series will be more connected to the beloved NBC sitcom than initially expected.
Per Variety, Oscar Nuñez will return as former Dunder Mifflin accountant Oscar Martínez in the spinoff, rumored to be titled The Paper. Sources say Nuñez will not be the central character, but part of the show’s ensemble cast, and has been in the opening script from the beginning. So, expect him to play as large of a role as he did in The Office.
Trusted insider Jeff Sneider was the first to report on Nuñez’s casting, via his The InSneider newsletter. According to Variety, producers were hoping to keep Nuñez’s involvement a surprise, but the Sneider had to go and ruin it!
Greg Daniels and Michael Korman are behind The Paper, which will see “the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters,” according to the series’ logline. Filming on the spinoff began in July 2024.
Domhnall Gleeson (About Time) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) will lead the ensemble cast of The Paper, which also includes Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, Ramona Young, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Tim Key, and Eric Rahill. Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts will also appear, but in a recurring capacity.
A premiere date for the untitled The Office spinoff series has not been announced yet. The series will stream exclusively on Peacock.
