‘The Running Man’ Remake – Running from Sincerity? | Video Essay

Reading Time: < 1 minute

When news broke about The Running Man remake, I was cautiously optimistic. Not because I’m an Edgar Wright fan — I’m not — but because I liked Stephen King’s original novella. It’s leaner, darker, and more grounded than the 1987 Running Man movie, which turned King’s dystopian tragedy into a loud, campy spectacle. There’s no topping that version, but we’ll always have it. This new adaptation had the chance to return to the source, to dig into the desperation and decay that made King’s story interesting. Instead, the trailer suggests another self-aware remix that seems more interested in winking at the audience than doing something new.

In this week’s episode of The Dhalhouse, I break down why the new Running Man already feels more like a parody than a promise. Watch the full video below.

But what do you think? Are you looking forward to this new Running Man or do you think this movie is more interested in meta jokes? Let us know in the comments.
