It’s Jonah Hill‘s birthday! To mark the occasion, here are five performances from the acclaimed comedic and dramatic actor. Check some of these out!
The Sitter (2011)
There are times when comedic actors have such a great run of movies that it seems impossible that they would make a dud? Well, The Sitter (2011) is one of those movies. I’m not saying the Jonah Hill has ever had the same success as Will Ferrell once did but considering where his career ended up going, its difficult to imagine just what the heck was going through his mind when he agreed to make this movie. I get the feeling that this was only for the paycheck and even though there aren’t too many laughs it actually has a few heartfelt moments that make up for it. This almost reminds me of Adventures in Babysitting (1987) … just without the good old heart of the 80’s.
Superbad (2007)
Of course, we’re all aware of the film that pit Jonah Hill on the map. This movie has to be one of the last teen sex comedies that actually made any type of impact on society Some movies date themselves or become products of their time and when it comes to Superbad (2007), that’s not such a bad thing. As funny as this movie is, there is something special about the friendship between both Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) that really makes this film stand out from the crowd.
Get Him to the Greek (2010)
For anybody who doesn’t know; this movie was a spin-off of Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008). Russell Brand reprised his character of a drug riddle musician, he was simply playing himself of course, but this film gave him the starring role nonetheless. It has a lot of great moments in it that with definingly make it worth the watch.
Moneyball (2011)
This was the first movie that Jonah Hill was able to truly show off his dramatic acting chops. There are not a lot of actors who can make the transition from comedy to drama and as far as I’m concerned, he did it in spades. I wasn’t aware of the real life story before seeing this film but it also made me reappreciate Brad Pitt, as well. Plus this is just a good movie and everybody needs to watch it.
… and this is where he made his triumphant return to comedy after his dramatic career tanked. Just joking. I don’t want to sound like a broken record but it is incredibly surprising how well these two movies worked given the leads as well as the source material. These reboots rarely work out but somehow they were able to pull both these off, almost to the point where even the idea of a third movie wouldn’t even be worth the effort.
